About Book
Set in the early 80s, The Black Wall tells of the activities and behaviours of a group of boys on the streets of Salford. Their pastimes, often hilarious, but also tinged with sadness and peril on occasions, certainly brought a smile to my face and the odd tear to the eye whilst writing it. Hopefully you, the reader, will also enjoy the chapters as you turn the pages. Thanks to Michael Laing for his help in illustrating the book and also to my wife Aisha and daughter Zara for their patience whilst writing it.
Teenage tales are recalled in this detailed account of the lives of a group of seven pals whose meeting place was affectionately known as The Black Wall. Set in a poor, downtrodden area of Salford, it tells of the exploits and escapades of the young daredevils and their couldn’t care less attitude to life. It s a portrait of youth with time on its hands and its utter disregard of others. It perhaps reflects the time when we were young and thought nothing of what we did. But through it all one thing emerges and that’s the camaraderie and loyalty within the group.

About the Author
Paul Hardman attended a Secondary Modern school as a teenager in Salford, England where he found creative writing to be a pleasure. This continued to be the case, at university where he studied French and Spanish in the beautiful surroundings of Stirling. Visiting the continent as part of his degree, he found himself comparing Spanish and French cultures to those in the UK. On his return, and to this day, he remains inspired by his experiences leading to the writing of this book, The Black Wall. He found this creative process to be a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience and he is confident that his readers will find it equally so.

What People say about the book

Like a cross between Stand by Me and The Inbetweeners, The Black Wall does not disappoint. A collection of nostalgic tales from Salford that will make you laugh and reflect upon your own childhood adventures. The author has really captured the teenage vibe and the characters are relatable and endearing.

A humorous account of youth. Brought back teenage memories. A good read, very amusing.

What an entertaining read! From the moment we start, we are already captivated by all the different characters and their trajectory... couldnt put the book down!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Not a book I would normally read, but I am glad I did. The tales of the 7 friends are truly hilarious and had me laughing out loud a few times. It's so interesting to read how kids used to get creative to come up with pastimes back then. Kids just aren't that creative any more these days.
